Within you is everything you need to heal & thrive.
My job is to help you uncover what's been buried by life's difficulties
My job is to help you uncover what's been buried by life's difficulties
Have you had an experience that has led to negative thoughts, difficulty sleeping, trouble with relationships, or feelings of depression and anxiety? Do you feel stuck? Facing these emotions can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to do it alone. I promise you there is hope to feel better and a path back to your authentic self. There are types of therapy that have been proven effective in decreasing the symptoms of trauma and PTSD.
Brene Brown says, "Owning our story and loving ourselves through it is the bravest thing we can do." I can help you own your story, unravel it, and heal.
Imagine if everyone understood that the statement, "You need therapy" was not an insult? Imagine if it meant that you deserve a place to be heard, to allow your inner self to heal from past wounds so that you can truly be your favorite self. Therapy can help you get to a place where you can enjoy your life without the weight of your darkest times. Seeking therapy is not a weakness, it is one of the bravest things you can do.
I offer individual therapy to ages 16+, with an expertise in trauma, and helping heal past wounds. I am affirming of the LGBTQIA+ community, and I have experience with helping transgender people on their journey of transitioning. I have worked with people from all walks of life, with an open mind and individualized treatment plan.
Studies show that the relationship between therapist and client is the biggest factor of success. My clients have described me as laid back, calm, completely non judgmental, and enjoy humor in sessions. I will not simply nod and take notes, and I will also not tell you what to do.
I utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for the treatment of trauma, or any stuck negative belief. I was trained in 2009 and became Certified in 2014. If you would like to learn more about EMDR, visit this website https://www.emdria.org/about-emdr-therapy/
I also utilize ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), which is based in mindfulness, accepting all thoughts and emotions, and choosing actions based on values.
Please reach me at alyson@pearsonmht.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Yes. I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Cigna, and QCCH/Sisco. Your portion will be based on your individual plan, which may include a copay, coinsurance, or a deductible. It is highly recommended that you know your insurance benefits before session. Payment of your copay/coinsurance/deductible will be collected at each session with a credit card on file.
I also offer an out of pocket rate of $125 for a 45 minute session, with a discount for same-day payment. Please ask for more information on that.
If you pay out of pocket, you are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate, as required in the No Surprises Act.
Our fist session will be an intake assessment to talk about history, goals, and to make sure we're a good fit. This isn't like therapy on TV, you don't have to lay down and talk about your dreams. We'll go at your pace, and if I ask you anything that you don't want to talk about, you're welcome to tell me to back off! You can get a cup of coffee or tea from our coffee bar in the waiting area, and we'll figure out what's best for you. Sessions are between 45 and 55 minutes. A 'clinical hour' is not actually an hour, as it allows time for the therapist to write progress notes, schedule, and take a breath between sessions.
Want to listen to music in session? Let's do it!
Want to draw or write? Let's get creative!
Want to lay down and get comfy while you talk? I have the softest blanket!
Come as your authentic self, and you will be accepted.
This can be confusing!
A Psychiatrist is a medical doctor who completed med school and then had specialty training in Psychiatry. They can prescribe medication. Sometimes people assume that they will be doing therapy with their psychiatrist as well, but typically there's an initial assessment, and then quick check in visits to gauge if the medication is working.
To add to that confusion, there are also Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and Psychiatric Physicians Assistants who can also prescribe medication. They have either a Master's or Doctorate degree, but they are not a medical doctor. There are many options in the area of great medication prescribers from all three of those categories. If you need a referral, please let me know.
Psychologists have completed a doctoral degree and obtained either a PhD or PsyD. They typically focus on assessments and testing in order to get a clear diagnosis. Some Psychologists also provide therapy, but many do not. In most states, Psychologists cannot prescribe medication.
Therapists have a Master's degree in either Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field. In order to practice independently, therapists have completed around 4,000 hours of post-graduate clinical experience, and 110 hours of supervision, and then become independently licensed.
I am a therapist. I completed my Master's degree in Social Work in 2005 at St. Ambrose University, and went on to become independently licensed. I am qualified to diagnose and provide therapy, but not prescribe medication.
I require 24 hour notice to cancel your session, as your spot is held just for you and others may be waiting to be seen. If you miss a session, or cancel with less than 24 hours, there is a cancellation fee of $50, which will be charged to the card on file. There are exceptions for illness and emergencies.
I do not take clients who will need recommendations for court, including child custody or divorce hearings. There are therapists who specialize in these services, and I can help you find someone who can provide this service. If I were to receive a subpoena for a court case after seeing a client, you will be charged a rate of $200 an hour, including preparation, travel, and time spent in court. I will not make recommendations related to custody of children, as I believe this is harmful to the therapeutic relationship with the child.
